Many people are trying to go green in almost every area of their lives, and that’s as true at a party as it is anywhere else. If the Mom-to-be in your life is a bit greener than everyone else, you may want to host a baby shower that is eco-friendly. Here are some ideas to get you started. Go Electronic With thousands of tons of paper waste headed to landfills each year, your best bet with invitations is to stick with the electronic version. There are actually a couple of different ways to do that. You can go with an online invitation website like evite, anyvite, or greenvelope. You could also simply set up a Facebook event to get everyone to the party. The key with any of these services, though, is that everyone on your guest list has to be able to connect electronically for this to actually work. If you’re afraid many people on your guest list won’t be able to do that, at least use eco-friendly paper in your invitations and a soy based ink. Alternately, you could do most of your invites online and simply do a few eco-friendly invites for those who may not be able to do so. Consider the Location Eco-friendly baby showers can be held almost anywhere, and if it’s nice outside, there’s no more perfect setting for a great time. Just be sure to get a comfortable chair for Mom-to-be, because it’s probably going to be a bit tough for her to get on and off the ground if you plan to have it at a local park. You may even want to check with local botanical gardens to see if you can have your baby shower there, as they often have stunning spaces set aside for events just like that. Plus, nature makes for the best baby shower decorations. Fun Activities While many baby showers are packed with traditional games, your eco-friendly shower doesn’t have to be. Instead, you can come up with activities that are just as perfect. For example, guests could all plant a seed in honor of the new baby. Alternately, you could have guests give their greenest child-raising advice to the new parents. One final event you may want to consider is to have guests show off their artistic sides by decorating a baby undershirt or some BPA free bottles for the new baby. Eco-friendly baby showers can be just as much fun as the more traditional variety. With a bit of research, you can make sure baby’s first party is as green as possible. Think About Gifts Green showers need eco-friendly baby gifts, too. Let guests know that gifts should be as earth-friendly as possible. For example, if Mom will be using cloth diapers, be sure to mention that. You may even want to let guests know where Mom has registered if she’s done so at an environmentally conscious site or store chain. You may also want to suggest wrap alternatives like baby blankets, diapers, or simple baby gift baskets. Some eco-conscious Moms won’t want guests to spend money on gifts. Instead, she may suggest donations to a green friendly project or charity in lieu of traditional gifts.
